ReadyMade Inspiration

I just received the Fall and Winter issues of ReadyMade, in my opinion the best non-design magazine for designers. I’m not talkin’ a magazine that happens to have good design, never mind the content — ReadyMade is a DIYer’s dream. Make furniture out of cardboard (#5), lamps out of discarded blenders (#4). There is an emphasis on handicrafts and furniture but they cover a lot of territory.

The reason I post this here is that it seems that sometimes we as designers end up being collage artists, piecing together photos by someone, text written by another. We sit at sterile computers and don't get to see what we create until the press check. The only connection ReadyMade has to a computer is that it was undoubtedly designed on one.

There are lessons to be learned here... what differentiates us from a hack with a Mac (god bless ’em) is our heads and our hands. This magazine is dedicated to that thought.
