The Typophile Forums — normally a place of informed critique and friendly banter — are closed for renovation. Do not fret. We can still gab about type in the meantime, in real-time. Take a break from your holiday frivolities and join us for a few minutes in the Typophile Chat room.
This is a good idea. People can now reserve the more thoughtful comments and posts for the forums, and keep the personal banter elsewhere. I wonder if they will. :-)
Today's live critique of Gustavo Ferreira's work was really inspiring. I can see this being a huge bonus to the critique forum. I'm hacking the forum code to support it right now.

Live critique is so much fun. It fosters a much better sense of the designers thinking and process. Looking forward to more.
I am glad to see that the Typophile chaps haven't resorted to plugins or java for their chat technology. It seems to be fairly responsive and compatible as a result (though some Chimera support would be nice, heh).
Does @hacking the code@ imply that we'll be able to view previous critiques? I do hope so.
small world. funny I was just there saw Ricardo too. came over here and now your all talking about it back there.
my username don't work. I don't have room in my head to remember yet another user/pass combo.
live critiques must be fun. but chat forums are kind'a umm..awkward eh?

I really don't like chat rooms, and the few times I've checked on Typophile Chat there was nobody there. I suspect chat rooms in general are for people with too much time on their hands, which is definitely not the case for me. I'd rather have a bit of personal banter on the forums: it strengthens the community spirit, and sometimes makes topics offshoot in a new direction which can be just as interesting. And it allows users to participate in a discussion by logging in once in a while.
