Among other new fonts on display at PSY/OPS is a preview of the upcoming Armchair Modern, a design which somehow knocked loose my memory of this beauty that appeared in the Typoophile Critique Forums last year. Oban is a serious font of unmistakable quality, and still, as one reviewer mused, you just want to give it a hug. I hope Ruben hasn’t shelved the project. His website offers vague indication that it’s still in the works.
Oban is beautiful.
Did anyone notice some oddities in the visualization of swf files on Rodrigo's (Psy-Ops) website or is it just my browser going bananas?
Flash does mess up outlines, but you generally have to zoom in a lot to see anything strange. One trick that helps (I don't know why) is using TT versions, not PS. It's also a good idea (in general, actually) to explicily define inflection points (like on the spine of the "s"), and always have BCPs on both ends of a curve.
Talked with Ruben,
He has the majrity of the family done, he says he has decided to revisit the bold face, and darken it a bit more. He just finished a small caps face. and is in the process of developing an oblique face. That .swf that is floating around its quite choppy. Doesnt do the face a whole lot of justice. as hrant said, the outlines created from PS metrics in flash seem to get a little buggy sometimes. I have found even better then using a TT face is to just import the vectors for a layout that has been broken to outlines. Of course when your looking at type thats in the smaller sizes, the anti-aliasing seems to be a little worse than if it were made from the TT font. Kinda a pick and choose I guess, depending upon how you would be presenting it.
hildebrant.
