The SANTOTIPO project is an open enterprise that works for the development of experimentation in typography. It proposes a way to channel different views on design, focusing on discoveries and development of typographic experimentation. The project is led by Mauro Oliver and Claudio Pousada.
Yeah;, I've been watching this site. Very refreshing work going on there.

I very much enjoyed the pictures and their associated digital translations -- I even downloaded a couple for later experimentation. from what I've seen here and elsewhere, this seems to be a fair representation of Mexican vernacular type.
my contention is with the idea that this is experimental. the impression I took away from it was that it is simply the transcribing of vernacular hand painted letterforms (which appear to have been around for quite some time now) into a single and necessarily less varied digital version. I can understand that this very valuable for their own understanding of the cultural style, but how does this constitute the "development of experimentation"?
and, please, don't take offense! I'm just asking. I really do think they've done some fine work.

Hello Friens!
I' m Claudio from SantoTipo.
ST is a 100% argentinian proyect.
It proposes a way to canalize different views on design and typography.
There are two proyects online,
" Arranquismo " (TEARING-OFF-ISM)
A review of the urban custom of tearing graphic pieces (posters, notices) from the walls, and a related artistic proposal.
And " From Folks to Fonts" ,
surveying espontaneous, accidental or ingenuous design processes on public places. Producing experimental contents of typographic nature from the surveyed material.
