Compu-retro Glory From Font-a-licious

Ben Balvanz's Tabletron is one of the better ’70s electro-matic fonts I've seen in longish while. Whether it was Ben's intention or not, it seems to have its roots in MICR, those old-school figures you can find on the bottom of your American checks. Here are some other derivatives: Automatic AOE, Computer, Cyberdelic, Data 70, One Nation, Orbit-B, Straker, and Outerspace.

www.9031.com (One Nation) is really cool! I like the fonts and the way they are presented. I discovered I can use the Japanese translation in Watson to sort of read it, too.

Tabletron is a fantastic font! What first attracted me to it was the originality of the letterforms. It harkened back to the logo on the old handheld Mattel electronic football games. . .

Anybody remember the "Bleeeeep! Bleeeeeeep!"

Stuart :D

Tabletron is great, but, unless I'm missing something, it's not free. when I click on the download PS link, I'm taken to a check-out page with a total of $15 of merchandise in my bag.

Same here. Font not free. Revise post.

Oops. Thanks for clearing me up guys. I forgot that Ben started to get wise to his own skillz and decided to cash in on some of his better fonts.

OH NO STEPHEN YOU USED A OPEN SINGLE QUOTE INSTEAD OF AN APOSTROPHE!!!!!

BLASPHEMY!

BURN HIM!

Colin | Mar 18, 2003 11:41 AM

Yum.

Somewhat Ryan Hughes-esque… but that's meant as a compliment, not an accusation.

Rob Irrgang | Mar 18, 2003 12:54 PM

Damn. You're right, Colin. Looks like the Smarty Pants we installed ain't as smart as we thought. Fixing it manually.

Stephen | Mar 18, 2003 12:54 PM

It's not him, it's that out-of-control TYPE-HAL4000.

With regard to MICR-inspired fonts: how could you forget the ever-popular Amelia?

codeman38 | Mar 19, 2003 12:09 PM

Amelia rules! D*R wouldn't be the same without it.

I'm looking for Orbit-B or very similar and want it for free. Why can't I have it for free?
