NEW RELEASE
Sophisto Breaks Basic Sans Monotony

Stockholm-based Stefan Hattenbach continues his steady rise to type design mastery with Sophisto, a 21-piece monolinear sans which incorporates some of the ideas similar new fonts have attempted, but thanks in part to veteran quality-control chops from PSY/OPS’ Rodrigo Xavier Cavazos (RXC), it is more successful than the others. It is balanced, but not boring. Counters remain ample in the heaviest weights. Its quirks don’t distract (okay, the cap ‘K’ is a possible exception). Download and print the PDF for an adequate taste of what Sophisto can do.

Also new from Hattenbach and PSY/OPS is Luminance, a serif that dances. While you’re at the site, take a gander at the unicaseable Armchair Modern by Stefan Kjartansson, recently featured in I.D. Magazine.

Nice work as usual, Stefan!

Stephen,

In fact some of the most "quirky" uppercase letters like "K" and "R" have alternates hidden inside each weight in order to satisfy slight more modest/classic persons :-)

The same goes for some of the other uppercase letters, like: B, C, G, I, Q, 7, and &.

Enjoy!

Congrats for the new work Stefan!

I like Luminance.
BTW, what currency is that "B" with a bar? Bolivar or something? Is Rodrigo from Venezuela? That would be cool. Chavez all the way, baby.

Hey Hrant,

The mysterious "B" is actually theThai "bhat”. Just a curiosity and mostly for fun. As a matter of fact a lot os Swedes are spending their vaccations in Thailand these days. It's becoming very popular... hmm it seems I just became desperate to fill out these slots.

Cheers
