SOTA to Bring TypeGallery2003 to ATypI

The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) will bring a major exhibition of type and design to ATypI this year. TypeGallery2003 will be on display throughout the conference, at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

TypeGallery2003 features an unjuried showcase of 75 new type designs from around the globe. The exhibition will also include Letras Latinas, a juried selection of 20 typeface designs from South America. Letras Latinas was curated for TypeCon2003 by Rubén Fontana (ATypI country delegate, Argentina), Pablo Cosgaya, and Marcela Romero.

In cooperation with Japan's Morisawa & Co., SOTA will also bring the prize-winning works from the 2002 Morisawa typeface design competition to the ATypI event. TypeGallery2003 will also display exhibits from the University of Minnesota Design Institute's Typeface Twin Cities project, and an international poster show curated by Michael Cina of WeWorkForThem.

Designers featured in the SOTA gallery include Peter Bilak, Claudio Rocha Franco (ATypI country delegate, Brazil), Sibylle Hagmann, Cyrus Highsmith, LettError, Peter Lo Kin Fan, Gabriel Martínez Meave, Mevis & Van Deursen, Joachim Müller-Lancé, Norm, Francisco Gálvez Pizarro, Nick Shinn, Luis Siquot, Erik Spiekermann, Sweden Graphics, Syrup Helsinki, and Test Pilot Collective.

The TypeGallery is created each year for TypeCon, SOTA's annual conference. TypeGallery2003 was initially showcased in Minneapolis last July, as part of TypeCon2003. This is the first year the TypeGallery will travel to venues outside TypeCon. Works from TypeGallery2003 will later be showcased on the TypeGallery website.

The TypeGallery is presented by SOTA, an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, study, and support of type design, typography, and the related arts.
