Frank Heine, 1964–2003Joe Clark posted an entry yesterday about ’80s album covers and Remedy, the very familiar font from designer Frank Heine. That otherwise lively discussion sparked this somber news from Rudy Vanderlans of Emigre, the foundry that published Heine’s last two type families: We are very sad to inform you that Frank Heine passed away last week, after a long struggle with cancer. During this time, as he was battling this debilitating disease, he was amazingly productive, designing and producing the Dalliance and Tribute type families plus type specimen booklets, and a monograph about his work titled Frank Heine: Type&c.: Personal and Commercial Works 1988-2003. Frank will be very much missed, and his passing away is a great loss for design and type design. I thought it might be more fitting for readers to post their comments and memories of Heine and his work in general under this new article.
