Edward Gorey Fonts for Halloween

Happy October 31. This time of year impels me to pull out my copy of Edward Gorey’s classic The Gashleycrumb Tinies [ book ] and admire the lettering, a serif hand drawn by the author. There have been a few attempts to digitize his lettering, some better than others, but nothing charms like the slightly varying character of letters created by hand.

Next week I’ll list some of the better digital fonts emulating serifed hand lettering, Goreyesque or otherwise. Email me if you you’d like to suggest a font for the list.
