Body Type by Moulin and Malchaire

The only thing that bugs me is: how does a self-professed “lover of type” explain the terrible typography on the CD-covers for his two latest album? Shudder at the sight of horribly disfigured Techno and poorly set Univers Black for Top Secret, and be puzzled by the amateurish quality of the Bodoni used for Entertainment.

The last time I noticed music from Belgium was a couple of decades ago, with Front 242 and other pioneering bands on the so called Belgian Body-music scene.
Coincidence? I should think not.

When I was in Brussels many years ago I caught a music video on MTV-Europe: it was a newly launched band called dEUS and I really liked them. I bought a CD, and almost got to see them live at the Troubadour (they canceled). They were very Belgian.

Front 242 has kept putting out kiler music. I recommend their latest Pulse and its EP cousin Still & Raw. Another great Belgian band would be Hooverphonic.

I'm just going to chime in here because I have a deep and abiding love of Belgian music. Hrant mentioned the great semi-dormant Belgian rock band, dEUS, whose records are - with the exception of "my sister = my alarm clock" - brilliant. ("My sister" is only good.) A founding member of the group started another band, called Zita Swoon, whose music is a little bit happier and funkier than dEUS was. One of the members of dEUS, Danny Mommens, along with his squeeze, Els Pynoo, have a great electroclash album out under the name "Vive la Fête".
In my opinion there is no better Belgian musician than Jacques Brel; he was the alpha. (Zita Swoon would have to be the omega.)

Wow, I didn't even know Moulin was still alive. He used to be in a great band called Placebo (no, not that one), who made the most astounding Mini-Moog based Jazz-Funk, with wild cop-show type horns. I'm glad to know he's still making music.
