Bryce McCloud on Letterpress

Joshua Lurie-Terrell on January 27, 2004

My favorite printer and illustrator of the moment is Mr. Bryce McCloud, who, according to his bio, is made of tiny blocks of lead. McCloud was a student of Jim Sherraden (hi Jim!) at Hatch Show Print, and now does all sorts of great work — much of it letterpress, all of it with the look (if not the feel) of that technique — with partners Michael, Chris and Lee as Isle of Printing.

Their use of color is so striking. And the illustrations are sort of “friendly” in a good way… some of them look like woodcuts too. Their work made me think of the Bird Machine folks. I like typographi.ca for posts such as these!

Thank you for posting this! I was looking for Bryce for years, we went to college together. Some things never change, that home page is so Bryce.

  3. TJ Lomas says:

Thanks also, for exposing me to the work at ‘Isle of Printing’. You can really tell that they love their work because it has been imbued with a sense of ‘fun’.

Hey all — Bryce now has his more recent works up officially on his isleofprinting.com site. The site where I had them up was just a temporary staging point which has been taken down in favor of his real page here where you can buy art online. I’ve put in a 301 (“moved permanently”) redirect on my page, but any direct image links are going to break.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I figure Bryce should get the traffic for his own work (with a shot at supporting his printing habit).

    Best,
    Rick

O.k., I went ahead and went a step further and linked your image URLs to redirects to the corresponding pages on the Isle of Printing site. After seeing how many aggregators had picked up your RSS feed I figured it would be best to just Do The Magic once and let everyone benefit. I.e., things should work without you having to do anything.

    Best,
    Rick
