T.26 Refreshes t26.com

Typographica on January 3, 2004

T.26 are the founding fathers of indie font vending. They made it easy for the little guy to get his typefaces seen, and, due to the foundry’s early popularity, that little guy could make a little cash. But twelve years of a relatively loose acceptance policy has created a massive T.26 library. The sheer number of fonts requires a powerful website. The old site design was hip, but it had a constrictive feel that could cause pain when browsing and searching.

The new site is an improvement. Particularly helpful additions include a new page highlighting recent releases, a nifty “wishlist” for bookmarking fonts, and an automatic listing of your recently viewed fonts in the sidebar. I do miss the Flash showings, if only because they allowed zooming. Hopefully more detailed viewing will be available in the upcoming revision of their Typesetter (the teaser looks nice indeed). In the meantime, you can still custom sample most of the library at MyFonts.

  1. Thanks for the feedback, Stephen!

We hope to have the Typesetter up this week, which will indeed allow viewing at larger point sizes. We have also kept the avenue open to reintroduce the Flash elements. There are still a number of wrinkles to iron out, and this is only the beginning.

More critique from the Typographica crowd is more than welcome, especially in matters of font previewing and usability.
