font 004, the magazine over which we’ve been fussing for weeks is finally is on the press. In fact, you can see it being printed on the Dome Printing webcam right now. Maybe, if you’re (un)lucky, you can catch a glimpse of Tamye, Michael, and me, looking over the first sheets, pretending we know something about color, dot gain, and registration.
Update: You can now subscribe to font magazine. Get a FontFont or Select Foundries catalog while you’re at it.

Ha ha! Reading this makes me feel better. I do a lot of thoughtful nodding at the printer, too. I can’t wait to see it.
I worked as a temp for a coupla days at Dome about 10 years ago, and my boss here at the Legislature worked in prepress and design there for years. Good folks, and they’re excellent technicians; you couldn’t have gotten anyone better to run it. I wish I knew you were going to be up here for the press check – I would have asked you all over.
I used to work on printing presses, for 14 years. I still have nightmares.
If you think the pressman and crew are laughing at you behind your back, they probably are.
Thanks for the webcam link – bad dreams to follow.
Will there be copies of font 004 at TypeCon?
Dan, fresh copies for everyone at TypeCon. For those not attending TypeCon, we’ll also have them at the FiFFteen exhibition at The One Club (July 20-Aug 10), and at the FiFFteen opening night presentations by Erik Spiekermann and Neville Brody on July 20 at FIT.
Not too easy to get yourself on the FontShop mailing list via their homepage — any hints?
Man, what is really frustrating is sign-up forms that don’t recognise other countries, especially other countries that aren’t divided into states nor have zip codes. Like New Zealand.
Kris – You can contact your local FontShop Australia to get the catalogs.

Mmm, ink. Thanks Michael for posting the pics. It’s nice to see the thing on press! For me I always feel like it’s really in the hands of the technicians and I try not to fuss too much – even though that’s impossible.
Dome is great. We’ve run other jobs through there and they make it worth the trip to Sactown.
This was a great issue. A friend turned me on to it. Thanks.
