Typographica on Typeradio

Written by Typographica on July 19, 2005

After a year of exhaustive editing, our short segment from Typeradio at TypeCon04 San Francisco is online. Ok, maybe not much editing was done — not even of Joshua’s flagrant language or my thunderous pretzel chewing. I guess that’s what happens when you leave a couple amateurs alone in the studio for 20 minutes.

Other (more listenable) Typeradio recordings, both past and live will be streamed, RSS-fed, and podcast from typeradio.org over the next few days of Type Week in New York.

Wow, the podcast feature is really cool!

Someone knows about certain other podcasts related to typography, design or branding?

  2. jlt says:

My language is anything but flagrant. Frankly, Stephen, I resemble that comment.

  3. lefthandhugh says:

Ok that pretzel chewing was awful. I barely made it though the show.

  4. allijack says:

I enjoyed the pretzel chewing. I was eating goldfish at the time and it all seemed so conversational… but I also truly enjoyed the contrast that show had with Mr. Parker’s insightful bit on Times Roman. Perhaps that contrast of the odd vulgarity with the highly respected commentary will be just what we’re all looking for?

  5. Tim Drabandt says:

This was truly a pleasure to listen to. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to typecon this year and Typeradio fills that void for me a little bit. I would like to see more contributions and interviews in the future, as podcasting is such a wonderful tool.

Wow, I did not. I had to rip the headphones from my ears.

Good lord, I beg you I BEG YOU please don’t eat during your podcast again. It is repulsive to hear that crunching and swallowing. Put down the pretzels for fifteen minutes while the mike’s on, folks.

  7. Joe says:

Thank goodness. I’ve wanted to listen to Typeradio for sooo long, and have never heard any episodes. Thanks for adding the podcasts.

  8. Seriously, the chewing? I want so bad to listen to all, but the chewing — I just can’t make it thought.

    :(

  9. allijack says:

“Were they plucked fresh from the bowl?” No. I like to chill them in the fridge overnight, that way they’re cool AND crunchy.

  10. Dirk Brandts says:

Love Typeradio, so glad it exists.

Count my vote against chewing food throughout an interview. It sounds ugly and I can’t imagine that there’s really any upside.

  11. jlt says:

The upside being that the pretzels sated my incredible hunger, and filled up the interminable silence between Stephen’s intelligent comments and my own swearing. You have to understand, I was hungover, tired and completely unprepared; while these ingredients may be ideal for some situations, they are not perfect for public speaking.

  12. Dirk Brandts says:

I understand, and in retrospect I guess I can appreciate the spontaneity and candid quality of the session. Above and beyond anything else, I love the fact that we’re able to hear type people talking about this subject that we love, just as I’m grateful for sites like yours where we can read about the topic. So carry on… :)

  13. gaela says:

i say, your pretzel chewing must be tangentially related to type…somehow. i wish you two were on the radio all the time. i was laughing so hard, man. that was some good stuff.
